A Universal Quantum Computer for Large Scale Computation
Universal Quantum is a UK-based quantum computing company focused on building the world’s first large-scale, practical quantum computer capable of solving real-world problems that are intractable for classical computers. Founded in 2018 by world-leading quantum computing experts Professor Winfried Hensinger and Dr. Sebastian Weidt, the company is a spin-out from the University of Sussex. Universal Quantum is headquartered in Brighton and Hove, England, with additional operations in Hamburg, Germany. Universal Quantum’s technology targets utility-scale quantum computers, aiming for a million-qubit machine—a leap from the sub-150-qubit systems common today. Its focus on solving humanity’s toughest computational challenges—drug discovery, materials science, or cryptography—makes it a standout in the quantum race, with a pragmatic roadmap to deliver real-world impact.
